games

A clip of the game. Mecha Sonic looks behind him while close to the finish line and sees nothing, then looks back again and sees Nights charging towards him with invincibility. He's launched into the sky by the impact but still crosses the finish line.

my personal favorite! I've clocked in over 100 hours playing this with friends and getting into hijinks. it's your average kart racer on the surface, but there's a lot more under the hood if you're looking for it. don't let all the mechanics scare you off - this game is gorgeous and a total blast. (there's also tons of mods!)

Sonic Triple Trouble 16-Bit

(Platformer, PC and Android)

a fanmade remake of sonic triple trouble in the style of the genesis games! this one is so good that you could easily pass it off as an official game. I replayed it while making this shrine and it genuinely made me smile so many times. it's a must-play. :)

Sonic running through Discount Districts Zone, a colorful city.

Sonic and the Fallen Star

(Platformer, PC)

this one's main strengths lie in its aesthetics - the game is visually stunning and has a great soundtrack! I haven't replayed it in years, but I remember it having some interesting boss fights and being a breezy, fun experience, if a bit shallow in its level design. I'd say it's worth a look!

Sonic looking up at Silver, who is floating in the air and glowing with his telekinesis.

turns out if you fix all the weird control issues and bugs, sonic 06 is pretty damn good! this game does that. what you're left with feels like another adventure game with just a dash of boost sonic, capturing the strengths of both super well. of course, as a big adventure-era fan, I love this one. go check it out!

Sonic CD: The Unsung Masterpiece

(Retrospective by Sparky's World)

an eight-hour sonic cd retrospective where every second feels worthwhile. it taught me so much about a game I already loved and gave me an even deeper appreciation for its artistry and level design. incredible stuff! made me cry!

An Archie Sonic cover with Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot sitting in a theater. Eggman, eating popcorn, says 'Now that's entertainment!'

The 15 Year Evolution of Archie Sonic

(Retrospective by Lowart)

the reason I fell in love with archie sonic. the early comics are hard to sit through, but he covers them with a mix of humor and analysis that helped me appreciate them more. I recommend this if you're interested in flynn-era archie but can't quite stomach the early stuff. (read return to angel island for yourself, though! it's great!)

A piece from the pixel art gallery. Sonic stands in front of a giant warp ring with a distant planet on the other side. Text reads 'Time to pursue your dreams. Space to find your aspirations. Reality can be perceived by concepts you will into existence. Re: Sonic the Hedgehog.'

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog

(Fanmade Album and Art Gallery)

a collaborative album accompanied by beautiful pixel art from instantsonic! and it runs on an actual sega cd!!! genuinely such a cool project and one I come back and listen to often. absolutely give this one a look! (I think you can even get a physical copy of it still...?)

BORN TO FAIL

(Zine by Fernsnailz)

a zine focusing on the robots of the series (including the games, archie, and idw)! all the comics really capture the emotions behind their existential struggles - and of course the art is great. go check it out if you love these little guys like I do! :]

Ensemble art of Sonic and the Freedom Fighters in the ring from the Sonic the Hedgehog title screen.

archie sonic got a continuity reset late into its lifespan that left a bunch of ongoing storylines unfinished... but what if it had kept going? this fanmade continuation answers that! an absolute godsend at the end of my archie reading adventures.

Complex Inquiries

(Fanfic by MeaslyFurball)

my favorite take on a metal sonic redemption arc. the journey is slow and feels true to his ruthless and determined personality, which is a breath of fresh air when he's so often just instantly reprogrammed (not that that's always bad - shard my beloved). metal sonic's robotic way of thinking is so interesting to read yet also so incredibly human! this author also has a bunch of great team dark and omega-focused fics if that's more your speed. :)
